STEREOTYPES

Stereotypes are a generalization about characteristics imposed upon groups of people because of their race, nationality, and even sexual orientation. When we are stereotyping we infer a person a whole of range of characteristics that we assume that all members of that group have.
Most of the stereotypes tend to be a negative impression in which some persons could obtain a bad reference about a person who comes from a different culture, habits, etc. Consequently, stereotypes lead to social categorization which means that society tends to do prejudice and sometimes to reject a specific group based on stereotypes.

One of the most harmed with stereotypes is the Colombian people. For many years, Colombians are been categorized as "narcos" simply in the '80s existed a one of the most powerful narco in the world called Pablo Escobar. Following this, people around the world think that Colombians are the same as Pablo. As a consequence, abroad Colombians have been discriminated, rejected and alienated from other communities.

Stereotypes are a big problem in our society. It puts labels about how a person should act or live according to their sex, race, personality, and other facts. This could affect individuals who perhaps like different things or do different activities, but feel ashamed of doing so because of stereotypes. Stereotypes like all men like sports or women are not as strong as men are among the most common in our society. Stereotypes have created a distortion of how every individual should be. We as part of the generation I should know how these stereotypes could affect us as individuals. We should learn not to judge and prejudge about people because of what we think they should be like and should change our point of view about the stereotypes that are deeply rooted in our society.

  1. As we all are unique we tend to have different perspectives about what is right, fair, and of course to judge the kind of things we believe are unfair. Unfortunately, we live in a society that leads to other destruction not just by stereotypes, which are a rude way to categorize people by their mistakes, the bad things they have done, rather than the good; However, they are the most common resource that that people use to reject others.

I think you have a clear position and understandable arguments to say that stereotypes are beliefs, and judgements that only cause social rejection even thought that the fact that someone else commit a mistake doesn't mean that that the rest of the world are like those ones, so if we believe and think in a different way than others, we will help them to open their minds and put aside those assumptions that separate human beings.

  2. Hi Vanesa, I think your publication is right. Personally I feel that stereotypes do not represent a culture. Each person is an individual different from the other. Stereotypes can hurt people.
